Thank you to the International Crane Foundation and the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum for featuring John on their latest webinar Cranes and Artists – a creative dance. Available to view on the ICF YouTube channel here.
In his book Lines from Nature John wrote, ” At Hornborgasjon… is one of the great bird events of the world – cranes feeding, preening, bathing, dancing, leaping into the air, picking up and throwing sticks, and calling in great excitement. No wonder cranes are favourites with artists throughout the world. They were especially loved by the old Chinese artists, who matched their rhythmic elegance with beautiful brush strokes. I tried to touch this deep ancestral link between bird and man in my Crane Dance paintings.”
For anyone wanting to see more of John’s pictures of cranes here is a selection. They are mainly European cranes drawn from visits to Hornborgasjon in Sweden;,Extramadura in Spain, and the Hula valley, Israel.
