Galapagos

In his book Land Marks and Sea Wings John writes about his trip to the Galapagos. “The wildlife is amazingly unafraid of humans. It is still possible to imagine the feelings of the first explorers at the strangeness of marine iguanas and giant tortoises, and of the plants and animals and even penguins, existing at the edges of these barren, volcanic islands on the equator…

…The insights of zoologists, especially those of my friend Bryan Nelson, have helped me to understand the creatures I draw. Regard for science does not exclude a spiritual dimension – while I was there, words written by St John on another remote island 2000 years ago came strongly to mind: ‘All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men'” (John 1:3,4)
