John first visited Azraq and Petra in Jordan in the company of his friend and zoologist Bryan Nelson in the early 1970’s, illustrating Nelson’s books and producing some magnificent oil paintings influenced by the desert environment. Other trips followed and in 1995 he was asked to illustrate the definitive guide to birding in Jordan, Ian J Andrews’ Birds of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
